About the author
Karen Siewers was born in 1964 in Leer, Germany. After leaving school she studied Medicine at the Medizinischen Hochschule in Hannover. On completion of her degree, she worked at the Medical University specialising in Anaesthetics and Organ Transplants. In 1993 she changed direction and joined the Navy, sailing as Ships Doctor. She then transferred within the Navy, specialising in Diving and Tropical Diseases.
In 1996 she married Björn Siewers.
In 1997 she had her first son, followed fifteen months later with a daughter. She decided to finish her career with the Navy. However she did not give up work completely still working as a relieving doctor and giving lectures at various medical schools and institutes.
In 2000 and 2002 she had two more boys.
Since moving to Schleswig Holstein in 2003, Karen now works as an after-hours duty doctor.
In 2008 Karen started to write her first novel. The story of Thala and her adventures have always been in the back of her mind, waiting for the right time to put onto paper.
The book had only just been printed in 2009, when Karen started working on the second part to Thala.
Thala - The Unbelievable Journey of a Courageous Woman has been available in bookshops and internet since January 2010.
